ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always been driven to create long before I even understood the power and potential behind it. Before I even knew how to read or write. As a child I drew everything I could imagine, illustrating my own stories and daydreams, and especially characters from my imagination. In some ways I feel like I still do the same thing.

While my work is diverse and often explorative in nature, there is one factor which unites them all: they are almost always portraits. My love of drawing faces and mirroring someone’s personality on paper is something I have never been able to get over. Specifically, I enjoy capturing the beauty of individuals as well as their style and even their culture. I am drawn to vibrant, happy colors and intricate patterns. Nothing excites me more than the little details. The ideas are spontaneous, but the work itself is the product of endless hours of focus and dedication. And now as an adult, I strive to push my work being just aesthetics, but rather use aesthetics as a tool to tell a story. By being able to branch out more and play with ideas design and abstraction, my work has evolved to reflect more of my own personality and mind as opposed to the subject itself.
